A consistent theme through my life has been my love of the visual expression of the arts and expanding my understanding of the world through the creation of painted artwork. At a young age and armed with a chalkboard I received for Christmas, my first portraits were created featuring Elvis Presley. I quickly progressed to chalk and sidewalk art in front of our home. My formal training began at 10 when I was selected for a pilot public school program of learning standard curriculum through art. While it only lasted a year, the exposure I received cemented my path.
I received my degree in Art History and Restorative Art at our local university. I later studied under John Howard Sanden from the New York Portrait Institute and through him was introduced to Gordon Wetmore, an outstanding portraitist from Tennessee. He became a mentor as well as an inspiration to expand my mastery and proficiency with oil-based works.
On a new path, I started a mural business in the Pacific Northwest, mastering the painting of big, bold, and accurate impressions. After almost 2 decades of life on scaffolds and ladders, I have returned to my roots of oil-based painting on canvas. While I still do an occasional mural, most of my new work is now inspired by the Sierra Nevadas and the river next to my home.
